Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2015-2016 educational progress for Adams Elementary. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Nancy Burk, Adams Principal for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting https://goo.gl/VaSa3V or you may review a copy in the main office at Adams Elementary.

A key challenge for Adams Elementary is ensuring all students’ academic achievement continues to increase in all content areas.  We provide interventions and extensions during WIN (What I Need) time in the area of Math and English Language Arts.  All students are provided an intervention period that will help them increase their achievement level on Common Core State Standards.

Process for assigning pupils to the school:  Students in Zeeland Public Schools are assigned based upon their home address.  After all students are placed in their neighborhood school, school-of-choice students are placed based upon available spots.

The status of our 3-5 year School Improvement Plan: Adams Elementary School Improvement Team meets regularly to work on our school improvement plan which focuses on preparing children for THEIR future.  We will lead our students toward academic, social, and emotional growth by providing a safe and nurturing environment where all learners experience success.

Specialty schools:  Students enrolled in an elementary program at Zeeland Public Schools are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of opportunities besides the traditional general education.  ZPS offers special education programming to meet various needs, Gifted and Talented (4th/5th grade), Spanish Immersion (K-4th) and ZQuest (a year round, project based school, K-8th).

Core curriculum:  Our curriculum is based upon the State of Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations and National Common Core Standards. This information is available at our school office or on our district web site. Zeeland Public Schools makes sure our students are provided challenging lessons that are consistent across grade levels. A team of Zeeland educators regularly evaluates and revises our curriculum to ensure that classroom lessons meet state requirements for kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our district has made the transition to the National Common Core Standards in Math and English Language Arts

Ninety nine percent of Adams Elementary students were represented by parents at parent-teacher conferences.  We value sharing of information between parents and teachers.

Adams Elementary is proud of our student’s success and we continue to strive for academic excellence by partnering with parents and our community.

Sincerely,

Nancy E. Burk
