Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2016-17 educational progress for the Adams Elementary. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mark Gronevelt, Adams Principal for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site https://goo.gl/7dnJXD, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.

For the 2016-17 school year, schools were identified using new definitions and labels as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  A Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) school is one that has at least one underperforming student subgroup. An Additional Targeted Support (ATS) school is one that has three or more underperforming student subgroups. A Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school is one whose performance is in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state.  Some schools are not identified with any of these labels. In these cases, no label is given.

Our school was not given one of these labels.

A key challenge for Adams Elementary is ensuring all students’ academic achievement continues to increase in all content areas.  We provide interventions and extensions during WIN (What I Need) time in the area of Math and English Language Arts.  All students are provided an intervention period that will help them increase their achievement level on Common Core State Standards.

Process for assigning pupils to the school:  Students in Zeeland Public Schools are assigned based upon their home address.  After all students are placed in their neighborhood school, school-of-choice students are placed based upon available spots.

The status of our 3-5 year School Improvement Plan: Adams Elementary School Improvement Team meets regularly to work on our school improvement plan which focuses on preparing children for THEIR future.  We will lead our students toward academic, social, and emotional growth by providing a safe and nurturing environment where all learners experience success.

Specialty schools:  Students enrolled in an elementary program at Zeeland Public Schools are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of opportunities besides the traditional general education.  ZPS offers special education programming to meet various needs, Gifted and Talented (4th/5thgrade), Spanish Immersion (K-4th) and ZQuest (a year round, project based school, K-8th).

Core curriculum:  Our curriculum is based upon the State of Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations and National Common Core Standards. This information is available at our school office or on our district web site. Zeeland Public Schools makes sure our students are provided challenging lessons that are consistent across grade levels. A team of Zeeland educators regularly evaluates and revises our curriculum to ensure that classroom lessons meet state requirements for kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our district has made the transition to the National Common Core Standards in Math and English Language Arts
